A Good Day In The Office

What's not to like with the sun on my back, fire going, cutting trees down and a cup of tea (or a few) thanks to the Kelly Kettle and now off lambing until the cold hours of the night.

Derwent Water

We have just returned from a fantastic holiday with six families including various Burgii, Grews, Maycocks and Bennetts, at a hostel on the shores of Derwent Water.  After a damp and windy start, we were blessed with a fine day with to climb Cat Bells which was the highlight of the trip.  A certain Mrs Tiggywinkle is said to reside here, behind a little wooden door cut into the side of the hill.  Much searching was done to find the secret door, but hedgehogs are notoriously shy and Mrs Tiggywinkle proved to be no exception.  But despite the lack of hedgehog sightings, it was an epic day of adventure, surrounded on all sides by the most stunning views.  Without exception the twelve children gave the whole experience a big thumbs up, and went home hungry for more mountain adventures.  For us, it brought back memories of old when many, many mountains were climbed, and as the children's legs grow longer the mountains will most definitely get taller, or at least that is the plan.  We will have little persuasion to do from our end, James having declared his ambition to climb Scafell Pike, Snowdon and Ben Nevis next!

More birthday fun

Jenny's 7th birthday celebration began with a day out at Kent Life with her buddies from school, followed by games, tea and dinosaur cake back at home.  Another year, another birthday party survived!

Birthday snow

It wasn't much and didn't stick around for long, but this very light dusting is the best we've had this year, and Jenny was thrilled that it arrived on the morning of her birthday.  I had the unexpected pleasure of picking Jenny up from school today, having spent the day looking after James who was recovering from a nasty bout of flu.  Jenny had a brilliant day, with yet more sylvanians, a camp blanket, some very special colouring pencils and a much loved "blobby" from friend Tegan. Happy birthday Jenny, more fun to come on Saturday!
