Brittany - Week two: Milin Kerhe

After our week at Erquy we headed west to tranquility itself in the form of Milin Kerhe campsite.  This amazing place is in the grounds of an old mill, bordered by a river which is home to kingfisher, coypu and bats to name but a few.
Much time was spent on (or in) the river.  There were squeals of laughter as James and Jenny were determined to capsize Daddy's paddle board and dunk him in the river.

...and again

 ...and again!

 Oh, and again!
 But revenge is sweet!

...and James takes matters into his own hands

There is nothing, absolutely nothing, half so much worth doing as simply messing about in boats.
...or rafts!  Every summer the campsite runs a raft building and racing competition.
Thanks to the extraordinary design skills of our new friend Pierre, the Burgess raft brought home the gold medal!
And when we weren't messing around on the river, we were walking the slack line.

Our good friend Charlie, from our neighbouring pitch was the true expert, walking the line with added finesse.
We did occasionally tear ourselves away from the campsite for the odd day trip.  This was the Chateau Roche Jagu (or Rogan Josh as it became known).
We also explored the Pink Granite Coast, from Ploumanach.
We explored the bay by kayak,

and visited the island with it's own castle, which was sadly not open to the public.

Sharing a campfire with our lovely neighbours, the Hoys, who bailed us out on several occasions when our camp cooker gave up the ghost.

Au revoir pitch 12, hope to return and camp on you again one day.

Brittany - Week one: Erquy

This year we bravely ventured further from home for our summer holidays, travelling to Brittany with our lovely new bell tent.  We camped in Erquy, at Les Pins campsite just a short walk from some of the loveliest beaches we have ever visited.
A rare but beautiful moment!
Our favourite beach, Plage du Portuais, bathed in glorious sunshine
the rock pools were amazing

Daddy and the kids braving the cold sea

 Running away from the waves!
Dinner!  We had our very own moules marinieres harvested from this beach
Chilling out at the pool after a long day.  The water slides were awesome, this is Mummy and James racing down the fast slide!
and Jenny on the whirly one!
Making the most of an overcast day, we took a trip to Mont Saint Michel
and climbed up to the abbey at the top
Back at Erquy, we visited the miniature version, Ilot Saint Michel.  This little island hosts the tiniest church which can be visited at low tide.
It was a bit wet but we made it before the tide came in!

and we returned at the end of the day to see it at high tide, in sunnier conditions
James on one of the many walks back from the beach in the evening
...and Jenny
